Here He Is.

This was originally published 12/20/07, 1:37 AM. I'm going to keep it up top for a while.

You know. So every time I pull up the blog, I can look at him again.

Yes! He's small but so perfect, isn't he? Pink! Just like we like our Heart Attack Men to look. :p

miss assassin, last set of posts I kept thinking of a comment you'd left, months ago, about a scripture passage talking about an angel over ever blade of grass, saying, --Grow! Grow!

This time? Your photo of baby Rhys, brand new, cradling his tiny foot in your hand. That image will be with me forever. The last few days it's in my mind almost non-stop.

He is beautiful, isn't he? His first initial is W.

Thank you, Kenny! heh! I tend to think newborns aren't always the cutest things you ever saw, not right away. They're beautiful in a different way than that.

But this one? He looks very good!

So maybe I'm just being a proud great aunt. I know that. But I don't give a brass button, either way. He's ADORABLE!!!!!!

Wheeeee! Congratulations!

Thank you, Pretty Lady! I am SO THRILLED to be a great aunt. YIPEE!!!!!

I was never meant to be a mother. There are those of us meant to be aunts and uncles. I am one of them.

And now - now - the next generation of Ontie-ness is with me.

WOW.

Awww k! Congratulations to the new parents and to Auntie k too! He is such a beautiful precious little bundle, isn't he? What a wonderful early Christmas gift.

I miss those newborn days when my daughter was so tiny.

hmmmm....he is beautiful/handsome...i love the shape of his lips...
and, you know...some of the things most dear...are those we hold in our hearts...not only in our arms...there may come a time, when he's 'slurpin 'n burpin' all over you, then...maybe not...but, the love is so much the 'same'...and, it just grows and grows...
betsye...of the 'three dots'...smiles

granny j, I somehow didn't get that the great-ontieness of it would be so...great.

I love being an aunt. I don't know why I never got through my thick head how the next line down would be this fun, too.

livey, oh yes! I can't count how many times I've looked at that pic now. I can't get enough of it.

cindi, I can see how that would be. You're so lucky to have maintained such a great relationship with your daughter. Few parents can say that. And I suspect there was more to it than just luck.

In your shoes, I'd be closing my eyes and thinking back to that tiny newborn too.

yes, betsye. Exactly. He's in there now and there's no way, ever, he could get dislodged.

He feels as real and close to me as if I really could hold him in my arms. I can smell that new-baby smell, feel that skin like gentle velvet...

jan, it is SO tiny! I have the advantage of knowing how small his mother's hands are. Like mine, see? That tiny baby hand, it looks like he's grasping a perfectly large grownup's finger.

But no. He's holding onto another near-miniature.

And thank you all. Merry Christmas right back atcha. Yes. An early bundle of joy for this day.

Bane, I totally agree. And thank you for that! See, I keep telling myself it's just the Doting Great Aunt thing.

But then I look again. It ISN'T. That pic captures a purity of light and true sweetness that those Flems had a lock on like no one else...

I look at that picture and understand the words *Love* and *Miracle,* they rise unbidden and undeniable into my mind.
