An Extra Side of Cotton for Jan

Well. Is the boll is seed, or that hard shell-type thing the cotton bursts out of? I bet it was the second. Those things ARE hard and sharp-edged.

I pulled a seed out and put it in front of the cotton here. See the dark shadows inside the cotton? More seeds. Do the clicky thing, and they're much more clear.

(As you can see, I decided that cotton might be okay to put on top of the laptop, as opposed to a nice big rock.)

If the boll is the seed casing, I may have a boll or two hanging around in the car still, I'll have to check tomorrow when it's daylight.

k..the boll is the hard, outer casing which holds the cotton. As well as I can remember, they are dark brown, and have like four prongs. :)

Yes! Five though I think. That's what I thought they were.

Okay. Either I find a boll in the car, or I can plant some of those cotton seeds and see if I can do some *homegrown.*

hee!

Want some nice fresh cotton, for old times' sake? I can mail you some.

hi, betsye! I'm sort of blowing through at a VERY, ah, sedate rate here. ;-) I just answered your question in the post above.

Got to enjoy it all. Ain't no point, otherwise.

Arizona is cotton country too, believe it or not.

Slowly but surely though, desert agriculture is giving way to desert subdivisions. There's only so much water, and cotton is a thirsty crop.

There's just something so bizzare about the idea of growing cotton in Arizona.
